I really enjoyed both works that I have found by this author. I was constantly surprised by the arc of this story. I found nothing formulaic or cliche, but was invested in and sympathetic to the characters, alternately despising and adoring them. Annabelle is a flipping lovable tyrant who draws the reader into her convoluted thinking, while the duke is a "beast" who makes the reader want to slap him repeatedly. The other two main characters are so mild by comparison, I found them to be shadows of people, which made it all the more believable. The ending was somewhat abrupt to me, as I read "Tanaquill" first and found the ending to be very completed. I wish there had been a little more summarization to "Annabelle" but still thoroughly enjoyed this book and would certainly buy any and all works by this delightful author. I am an avid reader and authors like this are a rare gem, indeed. Thank you, Akalle, for being original and I hope for much proliferation from you in the future.
Quirky characters and storylines. Never quite certain of the characters' motives or how their stories will end. Complex personalities and surprising events will make the reader curious enough to want to finish the book. An enjoyable read nonetheless.
